About this course
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, graduates should be able to:
Knowledge:
- Explain the fundamental principles of epidemiology and biostatistics in public health practice.
- Interpret patterns and trends of disease within and between populations using surveillance data.
- Describe how epidemiological features of different disease types influence public health control strategies.
- Identify key statistical concepts that underpin evidence-based public health decision-making.
Skills:
- Calculate and interpret epidemiological measures and statistical analyses to assess health outcomes.
- Evaluate and synthesise epidemiological evidence from experimental and observational studies.
- Communicate statistical and epidemiological findings effectively using appropriate tables, graphs, and other media, and apply relevant software for analysis.
Application of knowledge and skills
- Apply epidemiological tools and statistical inference principles to develop research questions, assess causation, and design and evaluate public health interventions.
Generic skills
- Application of theory to practical problems
- Evidence-based decision making
- Critical reasoning and thinking
- Communication of a scientific argument to a variety of audiences
