Students will be required to write a thesis of 20,000 words on a topic approved by the supervisor. Students will also write a research proposal and give two oral presentations on the research.
Students should contact the subject coordinator in the first week of semester regarding a topic and appointing a supervisor.
Asian Studies Thesis Part 1 and Part 2 must be completed consecutively.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Evaluate research and academic writing relating to Asian cultures and societies
- Articulate their findings and views in written and oral presentations
- Describe and analyse major issues relating to Asian cultures and societies
- Design and conduct original research on a topic in Asian Studies.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Engage withe and evaluate complex texts
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Present arguments in structured formats
- Examine important cultural materials from a scholarly perspective.
