Through a course of research, students undertake their project in Interactive Composition under the guidance of their individual supervisor for presentation at the end of the academic year.
The major project can consist of a single defined project and/or contributions to a number of projects, depending on the nature of the discipline.
At the time of commencement, the written outline of the proposed major project or major field of study is submitted. This provides the framework for developing the lines of inquiry taken by the student and the final creative work outcome.
This subject is the second part of a two-subject sequence, taught over two consecutive study periods. Students are required to enrol in MUSI40115 Interactive Composition Major Project A (37.5 points) and MUSI40116 Interactive Composition Major Project B (37.5 points), consecutively, for a total enrolment of 75 points.
Students will receive a ‘CNT’ grade for Part A. An overall result for the subject is given following completion of the two-subject sequence.
Assessment and Subject Intended Learning Outcomes apply to the entire enrolment across Parts A and B of the subject.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- demonstrate a coherent and broad understanding of the discipline as a skilled and articulate artist;
- display a high level of artistic practice and further develop analytical, critical and research skills;
- critically reflect on and promote the artist's role in society through an innovative exposition of work;
- exemplify the qualities of professional practitioners in the fine arts.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- engage in independent and contextually-informed artistic practice;
- apply flexible problem-solving abilities appropriate to the discipline;
- effectively communicate the results of research and scholarship by oral and written means;
- formulate viable research questions;
- critically evaluate relevant scholarly literature and artistic practice;
- manage time and maximise the quality of research and scholarship;
- demonstrate an understanding of, and facility with, scholarly conventions in the discipline area;
- appreciate an understanding of the relationship with and responsibility to the cultural environment and society.
