Health Leadership & Digital Innovation is designed to help students develop leadership, management, digital transformation and business-aligned skills. Students will have opportunities to broaden their understanding of the health professional's role beyond clinical practice and their ability to influence the wider healthcare context. Students will be encouraged to explore and examine healthcare challenges and opportunities and consider how these can influence health outcomes and health system performance. Students will explore leadership and management theories and develop skills in leadership style. They will use an innovative and entrepreneurial approach, as well as consider the role of digital health transformation to advocate for change and influence resource allocation within the healthcare context.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Apply principles of innovation, business, and entrepreneurship to critically examine and resolve complex issues in physiotherapy and healthcare, while articulating the significance and function of digital transformation in addressing these challenges.
- Synthesise and appraise evidence about the role and impact of leadership and digital health innovations on health and the quality of healthcare.
- Critically reflect on one's own experiences with leadership and digital health technology to improve the health of individuals and/or target populations.
- Demonstrate leadership in pursuing positive change within the wider physiotherapy and healthcare context.
- Apply evidence-based frameworks and models when developing solutions and initiatives in business, leadership, management, and digital transformation as relevant to physiotherapy and healthcare.
Generic skills
- Operate within organisational governance, actively participate in professional organisations and recognise the benefits of such involvement
- Apply the principles of mentorship in professional practice as both a mentor and a mentee.
- Perform effectively within a team, including demonstrating leadership when appropriate
- Manage finite resources efficiently and equitably
- Understand the principles of digital transformation and how they enhance professional practice and organisational outcomes
