Students commencing in 2025 or later, please see Modern Languages Education course structure.
In 2025, the University introduced updates to the Modern Languages Education curriculum, alongside significant changes to the Master of Education. The changes affecting continuing Master of Modern Languages Education students who commenced their degree prior to 2025 are outlined below.
200pt Program - Changes
50 points of compulsory subjects
EDUC91316 Engaging Research in Education has replaced EDUC91030 Research in Educational Relationships (note: students who have completed EDUC91030 or EDUC90900 do not need to complete EDUC91316).
50 points of elective subjects
From 2025, students may take the following subjects as electives in their 'Second 50 Points' of study:
- Key Concepts subjects: Designed to assist students to sharpen their academic and language skills and set them up for success in their studies.
- Foundations subjects: Allow students to explore a range of topics of education inquiry and provide background knowledge for the updated Master of Education Specialisation subjects.
- Master of Education specialisation subjects: Provide depth in specialist areas of education. Please check you have the relevant background knowledge. For example, prior completion of other subject(s) in the specialisation, or other prior study or professional experience in the area.
Students are strongly encouraged to select the new Foundations or Key Concepts subjects as their remaining Second 50 Points electives. Level 3 Education electives are no longer available.
Final 100 Points / 100pt Program - Changes
There are no changes to the subject options in the EAL Specialisation, Additional Languages, or Research subjects.
Capstone subjects
All students in Option 1 complete the 25-point 'Disciplined Inquiry Capstone'. A travel-based option of this subject is also offered (availability may vary each year).
2025 Enrolment Notes
Please see recommended 2025 enrolment for continuing students, based on the stage reached at the end of 2024:
- Completed less than 50 credit points: Continue with core subjects listed under First 50 Points
- Completed first 50 credit points: Take the two new Key Concepts subjects and select two Foundations subjects as your electives
- Completed between 50 and 100 credit points: Select from the new Key Concepts and/or Foundations subjects as your remaining electives
- 100+ credit points completed: Continue your enrolment as normal and consider the travel option for capstone if interested
