A candidate whose work, in the opinion of the examiners includes a substantial, original contribution to Agricultural Science; and is of such a standard as to give the candidate authoritative standing in the field of the candidate's study; and who has fulfilled the prescribed conditions; may be admitted to the degree of Doctor of Agricultural Science.

A candidate for the degree of Doctor of Agricultural Science must be a graduate, of not less than five years' standing since qualifying for the degree, who has completed either:

  • a bachelor of Agricultural Science of the University; or
  • a graduate in some other faculty of the University who satisfies the school that he or she has had adequate scientific training relating to a field of Agriculture; or

a graduate of some other university or tertiary educational institution who-

  • has been admitted to a degree recognised by the faculty pursuant to Statute 11.1.6 as appropriate for the purposes of this regulation; and
  • satisfies the faculty that he or she has had adequate scientific training related to a field of Agriculture; and either-
  • is a member of the academic staff of the University of at least two years' standing; or
  • has had, in the opinion of the faculty, a substantial association with a university.

An applicant for candidature must submit the prescribed number of copies of a thesis, which may consist of published or unpublished work of the applicant.

The Faculty must appoint a perusal committee to determine whether the subject matter of the work presented falls within the scope of Agricultural Science and, if so, whether, in general terms, the quality and quantity of the work presented justifies submitting the work to assessment.
