This subject introduces students to the fundamentals of commercial operations in an arts and cultural context, including financial management, budgeting, contracts, grants, and resource management. This subject includes an examination of the principles of financial reporting for arts organisations; the preparation and evaluation of financial budgets, particularly for grants; and a survey of critical operational logistics related to contracts, staffing, and resource management.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Explain the key principles of financial reporting and budgeting
- Prepare a detailed proposal, budget, and project management timeline as part of grant management
- Identify the principles of resource management in an arts organisation
- Plan and implement operational strategies for arts organisations.
