Drama Therapy Methods 1 introduces students to creativity and play-based methods and theories that underpin drama therapy.
Through experiential learning and classroom practice students will identify core facilitation skills necessary to run a session or series of drama therapy sessions, and apply this in classroom practice.
Students will be introduced to meta processes of change, and core underlying therapeutic processes of change used in drama therapy; play, embodiment, dramatic projection, active witnessing, distancing, empathy, and life drama connection.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion on this subject, students should be able to:
- identify and examine developments in the use of creativity and play-based drama therapy methods;
- facilitate introductory creative and play-based drama therapy activities;
- identify core facilitation skills necessary to work with individuals and groups;
- recognise and describe core processes of change in drama therapy: Play, embodiment, dramatic projection, active witnessing, distancing, empathy, and life drama connection;
- identify and describe the conditions necessary for change to occur in drama therapy.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- communicate effectively in oral, written, digital and creative forms;
- respond openly and imaginatively to new ideas;
- develop and implement innovative and creative ideas;
- make effective use of planning skills.
