This subject introduces students to areas of professional practice and equips them to navigate a journey through the profession and develop a career as a portfolio artist.
It prepares students for diverse pathways in dance through developing skills in auditioning, writing pitches, maintaining work/life balance, budgeting, formatting a CV, editing a creative portfolio, applying for funding and grant-writing.
Creative employability is mapped through pathways into company work, independent project-based work or further postgraduate study. Guest lecturers from the dance industry provide insights and inspiration.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- utilise skills in video capture and editing in the creation of an online artists portfolio;
- apply knowledge of budgeting skills to the planning of a dance production;
- develop and describe a proposal for a choreographic project;
- develop and communicate a dance identity and values.

What do these dates mean
Visit this webpage to find out about these key dates, including how they impact on:
- Your tuition fees, academic transcript and statements.
- And for Commonwealth Supported students, your:
- Student Learning Entitlement. This applies to all students enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP).
- Completion rate. Students who started their course from 2022 and are in a CSP or receiving a HELP Loan (eg FEE-HELP) must meet the completion rate to continue to receive Commonwealth Support for that course.
Subjects withdrawn after the census date (including up to the ‘last day to withdraw without fail’) count toward the Student Learning Entitlement, and as a fail toward the completion rate, unless there are approved ‘special circumstances’.
