This subject builds on the material from Artefact and Performance 1, and will introduce key performance texts and related artefacts, objects or artworks starting at the beginning of the twentieth century and leading to the present day.
Each week in the lectures, the central themes of a performance text and one or more artefacts will be examined in detail, both in their original contexts and within the context of the contemporary world.
In the tutorials, students will be challenged to develop critical and analytical skills both individually and in groups through the examination of further examples.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- apply research to explore key performance texts, related artefacts, objects and artworks from the twentieth century to the present day;
- analyse a performance text or brief;
- position an object, artefact or artwork within the context of a performance text;
- critically appraise art or design objects and performance texts.
