In Screen Practice 2A, students will further develop their capabilities in pre-production, production and post-production techniques to industry standards.
Students will apply advanced skills and knowledge of practical and theoretical screen grammar in the direction of performance in a film project that they will direct and edit. Practical assignments are completed within a staggered production schedule.
Students will also crew for other students in areas such as camera, lighting, sound recording and assistant directing. Through collaboration with peers, within an interdisciplinary framework, students continue to develop and refine leadership and interpersonal skills.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- demonstrate intermediate film directing capabilities, with emphasis on performance direction;
- apply developed skills in pre-production, production management, and technical crewing roles;
- apply basic techniques used to record and edit dialogue;
- synthesise the development of creative and technical skills in the production of a short film;
- apply effective collaborative skills in leadership positions;
- demonstrate introductory leadership skills on set.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- communicate effectively, in oral, written and digital forms;
- develop and implement innovative and creative ideas;
- employ a wide range of idea creation techniques;
- demonstrate appropriate leadership in group settings;
- manage competing demands on time, including self-directed project work.
