This subject introduces landscape as three-dimensional space. Aspects of site grading and earthwork manipulation will be explored, including their experiential and functional implications. The Importance of landform modelling to the design vocabulary of landscape architecture will be introduced, alongside principles of technical implementation and representation techniques.

Intended learning outcomes
Students who have successfully completed this subject should be able to:
- Use a range of 2D, 3D, manual and digital representation mediums to communicate landform and site grading.
- Articulate the social, cultural, and environmental impact of landscape grading and drainage design decisions.
- Apply an industry typical iterative design development and documentation process to grading and drainage challenges
- Accurately, sensitively, and creatively apply the relevant sections of the Australian standard AS 1428.1 Design for Access and Mobility to the design of equitable access.
- Apply fundamental science and mathematics to technical grading and drainage problems.
Generic skills
- Demonstrate an ability to collate, refine and present your work.
- Explain your work using accurate landscape grading terminology.
- Apply creative technical solutions to grading challenges.
- Clearly articulate your reasoning for design decisions.
- Demonstrate a critical and reasoned thought process towards design iteration.
- Critically analyse design precedents and adapt them to different sites.
