After completion of this subject, students will have comprehensive knowledge of the sono-anatomy and when and how to safely perform ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia blocks and insertion of catheters for the upper and lower limbs, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, head, and eye.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Describe in detail the anatomy relevant to ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia.
- Identify the key steps required to minimise infectious and mechanical complications from ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia blocks and insertion of catheters.
- Identify the key steps required to perform and write a structured report of ultrasound-guided regional blocks and insertion of catheters.
- Evaluate the requirements for training, competence, and certification in ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia.
