This subject focuses on the factors that facilitate optimal performance of individuals in orchestral auditions and stressful performance situations.
Underpinned by theoretical frameworks, research findings and using real-world examples, this subject will engage students in practical strategies commonly used to achieve optimal performance.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- describe the mental and emotional strategies necessary for consistent skill execution and positive performance experiences;
- apply strategies to optimise ability to perform in a variety of contexts such as auditions, recordings and concert settings;
- critically evaluate the effectiveness of psychological strategies for own performance.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- communicate effectively in oral and written language, and in musical performance;
- promote and maintain the wellbeing of self and others;
- integrate personal reflection into the creative process.
