Health Leadership & Digital Innovation is designed to help students develop business, leadership, management, and digital transformation skills. Students will have opportunities to broaden their understanding of the health professional's role beyond clinical practice and their ability to influence the wider healthcare context. Students will be encouraged to explore and examine healthcare challenges and opportunities and consider how these can influence health outcomes and health system performance. Students will explore leadership and management theories; develop skills in leadership style, teamwork, negotiation, conflict resolution, and change management. Students will build knowledge and skills in business principles, strategy, and business planning. They will use an innovative and entrepreneurial approach, as well as consider the role of digital health transformation to advocate for change and influence resource allocation within the healthcare context.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Apply skills in innovation, business, entrepreneurship, and relate the purpose and role of digital transformation to answer key questions and solve problems in physiotherapy and healthcare.
- Synthesise and appraise evidence about the role and impact of leadership and digital health innovations on health and the quality of healthcare.
- Critically reflect on one's own experiences with leadership and digital health technology to improve the health of individuals and/or target populations.
- Demonstrate the role of leadership in creating positive change within the wider physiotherapy and healthcare context.
- Apply evidence-based frameworks and models when developing solutions and initiatives in business, leadership, management, and digital transformation as relevant to physiotherapy and healthcare.
- Demonstrate skills in leadership and management; including teamwork, negotiation, conflict resolution and change management.
Generic skills
- An understanding of organisational governance, the ability to be an active participant in professional organisations, and an appreciation of the benefits of this participation
- An understanding of the principles of mentorship and the ability to apply them with colleagues
- An understanding of the principles of teamwork and the ability to work effectively in a team, including as a leader
- An understanding of the principles of efficient and equitable allocation and use of finite resources
- An understanding of digital transformation
