This subject involves a supervised thesis of 15,000 words, embodying the results of the student's own research.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- Design a research project within a clearly formulated scope to answer an original and relevant research question within a realm of public or social policy
- Apply appropriate research methods and analytical skills to collect and analyse data relevant to a specific research question relating to public or social policy
- Theorise research data and findings to show specialist understanding of a select area of social or public policy
- Communicate social or public policy research in writing to an academic audience.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- Apply organisational, time management and planning skills to plan and conduct a substantial project of original research
- Reflect on your own work and ideas through drafting and productively engaging with a research supervisor
- Apply feedback to improve research, methodological and theoretical ideas.
- Communicate complex ideas effectively to an academic audience.
