This subject provides a broad overview of biological interventions for mental ill-health in youth. It explores principles of prescribing in youth mental health and the biological basics of pharmacology, as well as common psychopharmacological interventions for affective and psychotic disorders, along with their side effects.
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of this subject students should be able to:
- Summarise the issues and principles of pharmacotherapy for young people
- Identify best practice pharmacotherapy for a range of presentations
- Explain key concepts of pharmacology and its physiological effects
- Describe other evidence-based non-pharmacological biological interventions
