The Student Conference is a one week intensive subject that brings students together across all years and sites for a student led and driven conference. The aim of the Student Conference is to allow students to learn from each other, experts in various fields and other health professionals in topic areas suited to a conference format. In first year students will attend and actively participate in the conference program.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
As a Scientist and Scholar:
- Describe how a chose relevant student conference learning enhances current understanding of medical practice and/or medical research.
As a Medical Practitioner:
- Demonstrate consolidation of clinical skills in their student conference engagement.
As a Health Advocate:
- Draw on their learnings at student conference to reflect on their role as a health advocate.
As a Professional and Leader:
- Describe how learnings from student conference illustrate the role of a doctor as professional and leader.
Generic skills
By the end of this subject students should have developed the following generic skills:
- The ability to extract information from expert presentations and to take notes to enable them to write a report on those presentations
- The ability to participate in group discussions and workshops
- An understanding of academic conferences and their role in the dissemination of knowledge
