- 3,000 word online assignment, one short essay and short answer questions - mostly about human participant protection, due three weeks after completion of the part one teaching block, (25%)
- 25 short-answer questions, with focus on clinical trial design/good clinical practice (3,000 word equivalent), due during the second teaching block, (25%)

Closed book, one hour multiple choice examination (40-50 questions), covering all course content and supplied literature, due the last day of the second teaching block, (25%)
- Critical appraisal of published literature: short-answer questions, based on paper content (3,000 word equivalent), due six weeks later, (25%)
Hurdle Requirement: Group-based assignment (elements of a full study protocol) – 15 min Presentation plus 10 min discussion, due on the last day of the second teaching block.
