The double unit subject builds on the prerequisite subject. Students undertake more complex assessment, documentation and conservation treatment of artefacts across fields of specialisation. They work within an ethical and theoretical decision making framework in view of sustainable cultural materials conservation practices. Areas of study covered depend on the field of specialisation but are likely to include methods of examination, documentation and digitisation, cleaning, surface coatings, consolidation, structural repairs, filling and loss compensation, inpainting and conservation project work. This unit is laboratory based but may include group field work for in situ cultural materials.
During the pre-teaching period students are expected to complete the course readings, review the lectures and any other course preparation as outlined in the LMS. The LMS will be available at the commencement of the pre-teaching period.
