This subject develops participants' research, critical thinking, reading and writing skills as well as their ability to plan and write a review of literature and present a research-topic-related review fluently and confidently. Particular attention is paid to the grammatical and structural aspects of written and spoken research discourse. Students research, synthesise, write and present on a topic that is relevant to their field of study. The subject has a supported experiential learning emphasis.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- identify a topic for investigation;
- source information on a topic for review;
- analyse and critically evaluate a variety of academic and professional discourses;
- identify and summarise key information in a range of sources;
- organise and synthesise information from a range of sources;
- identify further areas for investigation;
- present integrated sources in a written literature review (for academic or professional settings);
- orally present a review of integrated sources in a conference presentation.
