The subject examines the approach to staff assessment, selection and development using assessment centre methodology. Students learn the competencies necessary to become trained assessors in an assessment centre, and to apply these skills in that setting. The subject also examines skill dimensions for effective educational leadership and management, and the assessment centre process as a means of measuring these skills. Students learn and examine multiple assessment techniques and activities for measuring management and leadership behaviour and evaluating performance. Knowledge of feedback skills and the development of growth plans are also considered.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- Understand assessment centre methodology
- Understanding the key skill dimensions of effective educational leadership
- Demonstrate the capability to successfully assess aspiring leaders in an assessment centre simulation
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- Learn and develop an understanding of assessment centre methodology;
- Demonstrate the ability to assess candidates in a simulated setting;
- Assess the leadership potential of aspiring leaders;
- Analyze strengths and weaknesses of individuals on twelve generic skill dimensions.
Generic Skills:
On completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- Collect and analyze data;
- Code and categorize leadership behaviour;
- Demonstrate writing and feedback skills;
- Work to deadlines and stressful situations;
- Demonstrate observational skills in assessment human behaviour.
