Business Studies 2 focuses on developing Teacher Candidates’ understanding of pedagogical strategies and resources for VCE subjects in Business Studies related subjects to encourage learning in an inclusive business studies classroom. The VCE subjects that will be examined are VCE Accounting, VCE Business Management, VCE Economics and VCE Legal Studies.
Teacher Candidates will develop their knowledge of how to plan for, and implement, units using data and evidence to inform their practice. A variety of pedagogical strategies and resources will be examined to support student learning in VCE Business Studies related subjects. This will include consideration of pedagogical opportunities provided by new and emerging digital technologies and the identification of issues and strategies available to support their safe, responsible and ethical use in Business Studies learning and teaching. Literacy and numeracy development in Business Studies related subjects will be examined through consideration of strategies that enable teachers to identify the specific literacy and numeracy demands of VCE Business Studies related subjects and which provide learning experiences and opportunities that support the development of students’ literacy and numeracy knowledge and skills.
There will be a focus on assessment with consideration of assessment principles and guidelines relating to VCE subjects in Accounting; Economics; Business Management and Legal Studies. Students will engage with the VCE Assessment Handbook, Examinations and Examiners' Reports for each of these subject areas to inform, and evaluate, teaching programs in Units 3 and 4.
Reflection on teaching practice in Business Studies 2 will be facilitated through case studies of professional practice. These case studies enable Teacher Candidates to draw upon reflections of their placement experiences in school based contexts, and theory learned, to respond to contextually based dilemmas and scenarios. Teacher Candidates will also have an opportunity to reflect upon areas for future professional growth and development in the teaching of Business Studies related subjects through collegiate interaction and self evaluation.
