This subject explores the history of cultural and intellectual relations between Islam and Europe during the medieval and early modern era. It provides students with insight and understanding of how the circulation of knowledge, ideas and artistry influenced the evolution of European and Islamic cultures. Particular attention is paid to the origins and evolution of Islamic science and its influence in European intellectual circles.
Intended learning outcomes

- A written assignment of 1, 500 words (due week 8) 35%
- A final essay of 2,500 word (due during the examination period) 65%
Hurdle requirement: Class attendance is required for this subject; if you do not attend a minimum of 75% of classes without an approved exemption you will not be eligible for a pass in this subject.
Note: Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day. In-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked. All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.
