This subject will provide advanced knowledge for echocardiography interpretation in patients with adult congenital, obstetric, and unusual medical conditions.
Topics include:
- Transthoracic echocardiography in children
- Atrial defects
- Ventricular defects
- Valvular defects
- Defects of the great vessels
- Congenital defects that present in adults
- Assessment of congenital defects after surgery
- Case reports - 25 cases
Intended learning outcomes
The completion of the subject, students should:
- Learn about adult congenital heart disease and echocardiography evaluation
- Understand the management of adult congenital heart disease
- Understand the effect of pregnancy on the cardiovascular system
- Learn how pregnancy affect cardiac disease
- Learn echocardiography features of severe pre-eclampsia
- Understand the approach of incorporating ultrasound into the assessment of post-delivery cardiovascular emergencies
- Learn the pathology and echocardiography features of cardiomyopathy
- Learned the power quality and echocardiography features of cardiac tumours
- Understand how to differentiate pericardial disease states
- Learn the cardiac pathology and echocardiography interpretation associated with systemic disease states
- Interpret 25 case studies.
