This subject is made up of four components: Principal Study Lessons, Principal Study Forum, Workshop and Feldenkrais.
Principal Study Lessons: students will focus on the establishment and consolidation of techniques that will equip them to study and perform Jazz standard repertoire as well as develop improvisational language for their specific instrument/voice. Priority will be given to the development of tone production, accuracy of pitch, rhythm, feel, articulation, dynamics, and harmonic awareness as well as develping an understanding of how these elements relate to one’s constantly evolving musical expression through improvisation.
Principal Study Forum: students will take part in one specialist forum per semester, related to their instrumental groupings. Workshop: Students will perform in an ensemble context for their peers focusing on their ability to interpret the repertoire, express themselves through improvisation as well as developing an understanding of the principles that lie behind great ensemble playing.
Feldenkrais: Students will address various elements of performance and awaken their own sense of physical awareness.
