The work begun in first semester on technique and artistic interpretation will continue and intensify through work on duets and trios. Students will be encouraged to integrate their developing understanding of musical and acting skills to consider, context and character as it is expressed musically and lyrically. This subject will culminate with the presentation of work at an end-of-year in-house concert.
Intended learning outcomes
Upon completion of this subject students will:
- exhibit a developing understanding of the vocal technical requirements of a specific range of music theatre voice sounds;
- exhibit a developing understanding of context, story and character and their impact on interpretation and performance of a song;
- support their storytelling with increasing technique.
Generic skills
Upon completion of this subject students will:
• exhibit developing knowledge of the key basic components of music theatre performance;
• have the capacity to participate fully in collaborative learning and to confront unfamiliar problems;
• exhibit a developing capacity for self-reflection, analysis and critical thinking.
