Students will establish a sizeable concert repertory covering all styles, and develop their ability to manage stress to ensure sound concert presentation at a professional level. Areas to be covered include advanced study of instrumental or vocal technique, and specialisation in all related aspects of music performance. Classes in the repertoire and materials of the instrument will also be undertaken.
In order to contextualise their education within the best practices of local, national and international standards, students are expected to work competently and productively as team members both alone and in groups, for example participation in individual lessons, performance class, orchestral and/or related ensembles. In order to ensure the highest level of performance preparation, 100% attendance is expected.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the subject, students should be able to:
- conceive, design and implement the creation of a musically coherent recital program
- demonstrate sustained artistic maturity in the preparation of recital repertoire
- perform the component works of a program with assured musical understanding
- sustain a level of instrumental or vocal craft that communicates and enhances the repertoire presented
- develop best performance practice skills within individual and/or group settings

Additional details
- Students must prepare a 35-minute program of approved pieces to be presented during the examination period at the end of semester (100%).
- Programs are to be submitted through the online Practical Examination Program Approval form by Week 8.
- Note: Students shall present a recital examination that is approximately 33 to 37 minutes in duration, including normal pauses between pieces and/or movements.
Hurdle Requirements:
- 100% participation as a performer in instrumental or vocal class unless approved by head of area
- 100% attendance to Performance Class (Friday) OR, Non-enrolled 100% participation in a major ensemble (or approved elective) as assigned by Head of Area.

Time commitment details
204 hours with contact as above including sustained practice time in consultation with individual practical teacher.
Additional delivery details
A Practical Examination Program Approval form must be submitted no later than the end of week nine of the semester in which the examination is to occur. This is to ensure students' sufficient time to revise their program if it is not approved.
If students do not submit a Program Approval, they may still undertake the examination, the approval process is an academic measure for students to ensure that they are performing a repertoire that is endorsed by their Instrumental Head.
