This subject covers a range of advanced issues in psychological interviewing and testing in professional settings, and may include: the principles of diagnostic decision making and the logic of clinical inference-making; widely used clinical tests of symptoms and personality; test administration and interpretation; the integration of material derived from the patient history with the mental state examination and other sources to arrive at a case formulation.
Intended learning outcomes
This subject aims to:
- To equip students with a knowledge of psychological assessment for the proficient use of psychological tests;
- To provide an understanding of primary techniques in the assessment of adult psychopathology and personality and their application to a broad range of clinical psychological problems;
- To develop skills in integrating patient history with mental state examination and material derived fromother sources (eg informants and standardized assessment);
- To provide students with a basic understanding of the role of psychological assessment in the development of a case formulation and for guiding and refining treatment plans.
