This subject explores the ideas that underpin effective cultural development planning in a local government context. Against a background of contemporary cultural development thinking, students consider international, national and state-based practices, policies and legislation that create the framework in which best-practice cultural development planning can take place. Students examine the practice and documentation of cultural development planning in their own organisations and analyse the values and goals that inform such planning.
Intended learning outcomes
At the completion of this subject, students should be able to;
- Demonstrate an understanding of contemporary cultural development theories and practices in the local government context (Course Learning Outcome 1);
- Apply contemporary cultural development theories to the identification and resolution of cultural development planning issues in diverse contexts (Course Learning Outcome 2 and 3);
- Use contemporary cultural development theories to analyse existing cultural development plans and contexts (Course Learning Outcome 1 and 2).
Generic skills
On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate:
- Ability to contextualise complex knowledge and synthesis this into effective communication.
- A capacity to critically investigate, modify and adapt new ideas and approaches.
