This subject will focus on the urinary and reproductive tracts and lymph nodes. Each topic will be covered in separate tutorials. The tutorials will comprise be of a didactic nature with multiple still and video images to complement the text. Students will be required to obtain images from their clinical cases and reflect on these cases and images as part of the subject
The normal anatomy and normal sonographic anatomy for each topic will be described and reviewed. The sonographic features of, description and interpretation of diseases processes of the urinary tract, reproductive tract and lymph nodes will be explored. Each tutorial will be supplemented by self-assessment multiple choice questions that students must work through to reinforce and reiterate the learning points.
Intended learning outcomes
At the completion of the subject, students should be able to;
- Describe the normal sonographic findings of the urinary tract
- Assess the urinary tract for sonographic abnormalities
- Interpret the sonographic findings in diseases of the urinary tract
- Describe the normal sonographic findings of the reproductive tract
- Assess the reproductive tract for sonographic abnormalities and pregnancy
- Recall the abdominal lymph nodes seen during abdominal ultrasound
- Describe the normal sonographic findings of the lymph nodes
- Assess lymph nodes for sonographic abnormalities
- Interpret the sonographic findings of examination of the lymph nodes
Generic skills
Successful candidate will develop skills in problem solving, analysis and written and verbal communication.

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
To enrol in this subject, you must be admitted in the Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Ultrasound - Abdominal. This subject is not available for students admitted in any other courses.

Assessment
Additional details
- Self-assessment by multiple choice questions following each tutorial (10 MCQ takes 20 minutes for each of 10 tutorials - 200 minutes total) and prior to subject completion - 20%
- Open-book multiple-choice examination of 50 questions which takes 100 minutes during the exam week - 50%
- Interpretation of 25 case studies assessed by structured questions pertaining to each case (5 MCQ per case) spread throughout the semester. Total time is 250 minutes - 30%
