Master of Translation (Enhanced) (MC-TRANSEN)

The Master of Translation (Enhanced) prepares the highly skilled professionals who will mediate international relations over the coming decades. The Master of Translation (Enhanced) is aimed at bilinguals who intend to work as professional translators or in professional roles that demand high-level translation and intercultural skills. Graduates may work in fields such as government, commerce, law, international relations, or specialised technical areas. The Master of Translation (Enhanced) is notable for its access to the intellectual resources of Australia’s No. 1 university, in particular the Asia Institute and the School of Languages and Linguistics.

The Master of Translation (Enhanced) focuses on written translation. Participants will develop professional competence in translating specialised topics, managing terminology, using translation technologies, and negotiating the cultural and intellectual boundaries of the English-speaking world. Practical learning is underpinned by study of theories of translation. Preparation for professional practice is provided by an internship. A research pathway is offered by the Translation Studies Thesis.

Study methods include intensive small group sessions, autonomous study through learning technologies, and placement in a professional translation environment.

It is planned that the course will be developed to include other Asian and European languages.

The Chinese Translation specialisation of the Master of Translation is endorsed by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd (NAATI).
