Master of Information Systems/Graduate Diploma in Business Admin (ML-ISBA)

Overview

Entry requirements

1. In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have completed:

• an undergraduate degree in Information Systems with a weighted average mark of at least H3 (65%) or equivalent; and
• at least two years of documented relevant work experience; and
• a personal statement outlining why they wish to be considered for the course

Applicants are also required to nominate two referees. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee selection

2. In ranking applications, the Selection Committee will consider:

• prior academic performance; and
• the work experience; and
• the personal statement; and
• the referee reports

3. The Selection Committee may seek further informatoin to clarify any aspect of an application in accordance with the Student Application and Selection Procedure (https://policy.unimelb.edu.au/MPF1034)

4. Applicants are required to satisfy the university's english language requirements for postgraduate courses. for those applicants seeking to meet these requirements by one of the standard tests approved by the Academic Board, performance band 6.5 (http://about.unimelb.edu.au/academicboard/resolutions) is required.

Note.

References above to a degree in Information Systems means a degree with at least 60% of the specialised information systems studeis, including a balanced mix of technical and management topics, project management and professional ethics.

Course structure

A total of fifteen subjects comprising at least seven MBA subjects and at least sic MIS subjects (4 core MIS subjects plus two IS electives). three of the MBA core subjects are in the area of information systems: Data Analysis, Decision Making and Operations, thus bringing the IS ocgnate subjects to a total of eight. The remaining two subjects are taken from either MIS elective subjects or MBA subjects or a combination

Students who wish to undertake this course need to do so sequentially, starting from the GDBA rather than as a combined course. For further information, please contact Melbourne School of Engineering. The GDBA component is only offered in part-time. Therefore it is not available to International students.

Exit Points

Master of Information Systems: Students would qualify for the Master of Information Systems as an exit point from either combined degree if they complete ISYS90043 - Business Applications and Architecture, ISYS90051 - Impact of Digitisation, Data and Decisions and Managing Process, plus two ISYS postgraduate electives.

Graduate Diploma of Business Administration: Students would qualify for the Graduate Diploma of Business Administration as an exit point from either combined degree if they complete at least nine of the twelve core MBA subjects.
