Students will nominate a research topic from a list provided by the subject coordinator. The student will be introduced to ethical considerations, how to complete a literature review and scientific writing styles, methods for the analysis and appraisal of other published work, and scientific Levels of Evidence. Students will learn to summarise their aims, hypotheses and methods. All students are required to produce a manuscript in the form of a scientific paper suitable for submission to an international peer-reviewed publication.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject students will:
- apply knowledge from Research Methods in Hearing and Speech Sciences to independently analyse data relevant to their own Independent Studies in Speech Pathology, Minor Thesis.
- demonstrate the skills to prepare a scientific manuscript suitable for publication.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject students should show:
- an ability to evaluate and synthesise information in a flexible manner
- a capacity to articulate their knowledge in both oral and written formats
- ability to enter and analyse data using Excel and MINITAB
