Building upon previous learning the subject provides opportunities to extend, deepen and apply knowledge, skills and attributes in the context of a research project.
This subject enables students to engage in the design and implementation of a research project that demonstrates their advanced theoretical knowledge and critical reflection skills. It provides the opportunity for integration of their prior learning form the course, and demonstration of their advanced practice and research capacity in health and human services.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- design, implement and evaluate an evidence-based intervention within the context of a practice setting;
- critically analyse and understand the interconnections between practice, theory, research, and policy;
- undertake a literature review;
- understand how research method/s are selected and the rationale for using;
- explain how research data is collected and analysed;
- an ability to process and analyse data collected in research projects;
- make appropriate interpretation/s of research data; and
- understand the ethical issues associated with conducting evaluation/research projects.
Generic skills
Students will be provided with the opportunity to practice and reinforce:
- high level written communication skills
- advanced information and interpretation skills
- advanced analytic, integration and problem-solving skills
- demonstrate competence in critical and theoretical thinking through essay writing and online discussions

- 20 minute Online Presentation – Research Proposal, Week 8 (20%)
- 6000 word written assignment – Research Report, end of study period (60%)
