A minor thesis of 10,000 words on an approved research project.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should have:
- developed time management and planning, and written communication, through the design, development and writing of a piece of research in the area of Applied Linguistics;
- developed critical thinking and analysis through completing a critical review of previous research, data collection and analysis and coherent presentation of an extended piece of writing.
Generic skills
At the completion of this subject, students should:
- have developed research skills;
- have developed critical thinking and analytic skills;
- be able to communicate a complex research argument through writing.

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
Please note: the minor thesis is designed to be undertaken towards the end of a student's degree program. Students should therefore plan to enroll in the thesis in their final semester.
Entry to this subject can be met through prior completion of, or concurrent enrolment in the subject LING90003 Research in Applied Linguistics. For quantitative theses, prior completion of, or concurrent enrolment in, LING90005 Quantitative Methods in Language Studies may be required.
Students must obtain an average of a high H2A overall (78 or above) to undertake a minor thesis.
