This subject will examine the role of the conductor as an accompanist. Students will work with singers and an instrumental ensemble in excerpts from opera and concert music. An ensemble and singers will be available for students to conduct during classes as required.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should have gained:
- Skills required to conduct singers in excerpts from operas, and instrumental ensembles in concert repertoire;
- Further enhanced leadership skills and expertise in directing ensembles in specific areas of the repertoire.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject students will have enhanced the following generic skills:
- Understanding of the skills required when conducting recitatives, arias and ensembles with voices and orchestra;
- A deeper understanding of the essential concepts of style and interpretation;
- The ability to apply and extend this knowledge.
