Students will develop performance skills neccessary to perform ensemble and orchestral repertoire selected from 17th to 21st centuries, through closed workshops and public performance and sitting 'side-by-side' with colleagues from major professional ensembles, under professional preparation and performance conditions. Students will work with and learn from professional musicians of the highest artistic stature.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, student should be able to:
- Show artistic development as orchestral players with regard to:
- Technique
- Interpretation
- Expression
- Communication
- Performance skills to the level expected for entry into the performance profession;
- Understanding of requirements of a successful professional orchestral audition;
- An understanding of issues related to sustaining personally and artisitcally fulfilling orchestral and ensemble careers;
- An understanding of the challenges faced by the contemporary orchestral sector, and the opportunities of the 21st century orchestra.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate a capacity to think critically and independently
- study selected repertoire to performance standard;
- apply time and people management skills to rehearsal and performance planning;
- demonstrate teamwork skills in rehearsal/performance groups.

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
Permission of the coordinator, based on a 30 minute audition of prescribed repertoire. Applications for ANAM Ensembles and ANAM Orchestra are called for in the semester prior to enrolment.

Additional details
Satisfactory attendance and participation in all rehearsals, classes, workshops and performances as directed (100%).
Assessment is on a Pass-Fail basis. Less than 80% attendance will result in a fail.
