Students will undertake this subject as a practical work integrated learning experience with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO). Through involvement with the MSO's rehearsal and performance schedule, students will develop orchestral performance skills and professionalism.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Understand the basic skills required to perform as a member of a symphony orchestra;
- Understand etiquette in rehearsals;
- Understand performance styles required for repertoire performed;
- Evaluate performance practice for works studied;
- Identify works from the canon.

- Work Integrated Learning Placement: quality, thoroughness and timeliness of activities as assigned in MSO work integrated learning placement. Assessed throughout placement. 75% (ILOs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5)
- Work Placement Report: 750 word report of work placement, including a critical reflective self-appraisal, duties performed, and learning outcomes. Due in Week 12. 25%. (ILOs 1, 2, 3, 4, and5)
Hurdle: Attendance at all scheduled activities as assigned by industry partner MSO throughout placement.
