Intended learning outcomes

At the completion of the subject, students should be able to;

• Identify key factors associated with the history that has shaped transfusion medicine into current practices
• Demonstrate a comprehension of basic blood haematology, pathophysiology of diseases, investigation and treatment that affect blood and blood components
• Describe the process of transfusion from donation to administration

• Apply quality systems, principles and issues relating to blood and blood products when reviewing blood products management processes
• Link quality policies and management of clinical risk and relate these to blood products management
• Describe and apply practical aspects of transfusion improvement such as audit and data analysis
