This agency-based supervised field education subject provides a focused practice learning experience. It provides students with opportunities for both professional learning and development and workplace preparation. Students will learn to integrate advanced theory and practice. They will further develop and consolidate practice skills, increase their knowledge of the interface between policy, research and evidence-based practice and increase their understanding of the organisational contexts and fields of practice. This subject requires students to complete 250 hours of the second supervised field placement required within the Master of Social Work course.
Supervised field placements are offered in a variety of government or non-government agencies, across many varied fields of research and clinical practice.
Intended learning outcomes
Students should demonstrate capability in:
- being prepared for professional social work practice
- understanding foundational theories informing social work practice;
- demonstrating the methods of social work practice, including casework, counselling, group-work, community development, policy and research;
- understanding the fields of social work practice, including child and family, health and mental health.
Generic skills
- critically analyse texts and practices
- understand recent developments in social work contexts of practice
- link theory to practice
- competently communicate in ways relevant to both academic and practice contexts
- undertake independent research
