Through 12 x 1½ hr lectures and 12 x 1½ hr tutorials, this subject will introduce students to significant objects, performances, ideas and artefacts in the history of world art, design and performance leading up to and including modernism. Each week in the lectures, one of these objects, performances, ideas or artefacts will be examined in detail both in its original context and within the context of the contemporary world. In the tutorials, students will be challenged to develop critical and analytical skills both individually and in groups through the examination of further examples through presentations and submitted papers
This subject includes an embedded program in academic literacy skills of analysis, discussion, essay writing, research and information retrieval.
