This subject will explain and conceptualise the nature of Asian management and business practices from economic, cultural and institutional perspectives. The emphasis of the subject is on the application of contextual knowledge about international business theory as tailored to the Asia Pacific, to analyse and make decisions faced by companies operating or expanding in the Asia Pacific region. Students will be required to apply the knowledge and skills learnt to solve various business issues in Asian business environment.
Intended learning outcomes
Develop an understanding of business environment in Asia.
Generic skills
On successful completion of this subject, students should have improved the following generic skills:
- Synthesis and application of competing managerial theories;
- Problem solving and critical analytical skills, which should be developed via the use of small group discussions, case studies and research projects;
- Collaborative learning and teamwork skills,which should be fostered by working in smallgroups;
- Oral and written communication skills, whichshould be developed via group work, group presentations and preparation of the major assignment.
- Demonstrate a capacity to successfully work independently as well as collaboratively with personal accountability.

Prerequisites
Entry into one of the following programs: Master of International Business, Master of International Relations, Master of Commerce (Management), Master of Commerce (Marketing) or Master of Management suite of programs.

The August offering of this subject has a quota of 50 students.
Places in the August offering are offered to the first 50 students enrolling during the self enrolment period. Once the quota is reached, places will only become available if enrolled students withdraw. Students seeking a place in this subject should check their enrolment regularly for availability.
Master of International Business students, for whom this subject is a program requirement, will be given enrolment preference. Any Master of International Business students not able to self enrol should contact teaching-mgmt-mktg@unimelb.edu.au for assistance.

This subject has a quota of 50.
Students will be selected into the subject as they self-enrol during the timely re-enrolment period. If the enrolment quota is exceeded, Master of International Business students will be given preference. Any students enrolling after the quota has been reached will be withdrawn from the subject and advised of the alternative subjects available.
