Students will receive tuition in their area of practical study. Vocal and instrumental students will develop their technique and awareness of the stylistic and interpretative characteristics of the repertory studied with an individually designed program of technically-based repertoire in preparation for an end-of-semester examination.
In order to contextualise their education within the best practices of local, national and international standards, students are expected to work competently and productively as team members both alone and in groups; for example, participation in individual lessons, orchestral and/or related ensembles. In order to ensure the highest level of performance preparation, 100% attendance is expected.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- perform technically-based repertoire with increasing fluency;
- develop solutions for technical difficulties;
- evaluate technical demands in selected repertoire;
- develop best performance practice skills within individual and/or group settings.
- respond musically to the aesthetic qualities of technical repertoire;
Generic skills
Students who have studied this subject should develop and enhance:
- problem solving skills;
- skills in critical thinking and self-evaluation.

Prerequisites
- Students admitted to the Bachelor of Music Performance/Composition/Musicology/Ethnomusicology specialisation: no prerequisite
- Diploma in Music students: entry to this subject is by audition only. Please visit the MCM website for audition information.

Additional details
- A fifteen-minute examination on prescribed content from the appropriate instrumental or vocal area syllabus, taken during the examination period at the end of semester (100%).
Hurdle Requirement:
- 100% participation in instrumental or vocal class, unless approved by head of area
- 100% attendance to concert class (Thursday) OR, Non-enrolled 100% participation in a major ensemble (or approved elective) as assigned by Head of Area.
- NOTE: It is recommended that Diploma in Music students enrolled in this subject contact their Head of Area regarding hurdle attendance requirements in relation to core subjects in their home course.

Time commitment details
• 170 hours with contact as above, including sustained practice time in consultation with individual practice teacher. • NOTE: It is recommended that Diploma in Music students enrolled in this subject contact their Head of Area regarding hurdle attendance requirements in relation to core subjects in their home course. • Any student enrolled in Practical Music 1-6 may sign up to perform in Thursday Concert Class.
