Assessment in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Part A and Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Part B is as follows:
Unit 1 - Essentials of Clinical Practice - (20% of total subject assessment)
- Four formative online assessments on diagnostic imaging, scheduled during Semester 1, each worth 1.25% (5%of unit mark)
- A 3-hour written examination, scheduled during Semester 1 (55% of unit mark)
- Up to 10 on-line assessments of Semester 1 and Semester 2 practicals to be completed during Semester 2, each equally weighted (40% of unit mark)
Unit 2 - Dogs and Cats - (33% of total subject assessment)
- A 2-hour written examination of all topics covered in the first half of Semester 1, scheduled in the second half of Semester 1 (20% of unit mark)
- A 2-hour written examination of all topics covered in Semester 1, held at the end of Semester 1 (20% of unit mark)
- A 2-hour written examination of all topics covered in the first half of Semester 2, scheduled in the second half of Semester 2 (20% of unit mark)
- A 3-hour written examination of all topics covered throughout the year, scheduled at the end of Semester 2 (40% of unit mark)
Unit 3 - Horses - (13% of total subject assessment)
- A 2-hour written examination, scheduled at the end of Semester 1 (45% of unit mark)
- A 15-minute practical examination, scheduled during Semester 2 (10% of unit mark)
- A 2-hour written examination, scheduled at the end of Semester 2 (45% of unit mark)
Unit 4 - Cattle - (11% of total subject assessment)
- A 2-hour written examination, scheduled at the end of Semester 1 (50% of unit mark)
- A 2-hour written examination, scheduled at the end of Semester 2 (50% of unit mark)
Unit 5 - Small Ruminants - (10% of total subject assessment)
- A 2-hour written examination, scheduled at the end of Semester 1 (45% of unit mark)
- A 2-hour written examination, scheduled at the end of Semester 2 (55% of unit mark)
Unit 6 - Poultry and Aviary Birds - (6% of total subject assessment)
- A 10-minute oral practical examination, scheduled during Semester 1 (20% of unit mark)
- A 1.5-hour written examination, scheduled at the end of Semester 1 (80% of unit mark)
Unit 7 - Pigs - (3% of total subject assessment)
- A group presentation, scheduled during Semester 2 (10% of unit mark)
- A 1-hour written examination, scheduled at the end of Semester 2 (90% of unit mark)
Unit 8 - Wildlife, Aquaculture and Exotics - (4% of total subject assessment)
- A 1-hour written examination, scheduled at the end of Semester 2 (100% of unit mark)
HURDLE REQUIREMENTS
- Students are required to pass the subject on aggregate mark
- The passing of each unit on aggregate mark is a hurdle
- A minimum mark of 40% in the end of semester examination component of any subject (and any unit with a subject) is required for a student to be eligible to pass that subject/unit
- Students are required to pass the written examination components of the Horses unit (Semester 1 and Semester 2 combined) on aggregate mark
- Students must complete the Horses practical examination satisfactorily
- Students must complete the Poultry and Aviary Birds oral practical examination satisfactorily
- Students must attend a minimum of 90% of all practical classes and group presentations in Part A and part B of the subject
