Overview
The Honours program in Pathology provides an introduction to the challenging area of investigation of disease at the cellular and molecular level. Students will undertake a full-time research project based in a laboratory within the Department of Microbiology & Immunology; or at one of our affiliated institutions. A student undertaking Honours in Pathology will have a strong interest in investigating and understanding the mechanisms of disease. The course year starts in February and ends in November and is only available full time.
Intended learning outcomes
The course is composed of a laboratory based research project, supported by course work, which will give students experience in the areas of -
- Design and execution of experiments
- Learning new laboratory techniques and procedures
- Construction of a title, hypothesis and relevant aims for a project
- Acquisition, interpretation and critical analysis of data.
- Reporting of experimental data in a concise and scientific manner through the preparation of a Thesis that is consistent with that published in scientific manuscripts
- Reporting of experimental data, through the preparation of a Thesis report, in a concise and scientific manner consistent with that published in scientific manuscripts
- Oral communication of results via presentations to a scientific audience
Students completing Honours in the Department of Pathology will develop a strong foundation for further studies as a Research Higher Degree candidate or employee with research and analysis experience.
