Structure
200 credit points
Students are required to complete the program requirements/structure from the year that they commenced their program. All required compulsory, core and capstone subjects must be completed to be eligible to graduate from the program.
200 point program
Duration: 2 years full-time / up to 4 years part-time
Coursework Only Option:
- one compulsory subject (12.5 points)
- one Foundation core subject (12.5 points) (must be taken in the first 100 points of the program)
- one graduate core subject from List A (minimum 12.5 points)
- two graduate core subjects from List B (minimum 25 points) (must be taken in the first 100 points of the program)
- Foundation elective subjects (maximum 37.5 points)*
- graduate elective subjects (maximum 137.5 points)*
or
Minor Thesis Option:
- one compulsory subject (12.5 points)
- one undergraduate core subject (12.5 points) (must be taken in the first 100 points of the program)
- one core subject from List A (minimum 12.5 points)
- two core subject from List B (minimum 25 points)
- LING90010 Applied Linguistics Thesis (25 points)
- undergraduate elective subjects (maximum 37.5 points)* (must be taken in the first 100 points of the program)
- graduate elective subjects (maximum 112.5 points)*
Please note: students taking LING90010 Applied Linguistics Thesis should have completed or be concurrently enrolled in LING90003 Research in Applied Linguistics.
* Students do not have to complete Foundation Elective subjects, students can take additional Graduate level Electives to meet elective points requirement for this course
Capstone Requirement:
Capstone subject options must be completed in the final hundred points of the program. All students are required to complete one Capstone subject option (at least 25 points). This requirement cannot be waived or replaced in any circumstances:
Capstone Stream 1: LING90003 Research in Applied Linguistics (12.5 points) or LING90005 Quantitative Methods in Language Studies (12.5 points) and LING90018 (12.5 points) Sociolinguistics and Language Learning or LING90019 English in a Globalised World (12.5 points)
Purpose: An opportunity to integrate knowledge and research skills within the English Language specialisation
