Students will conceive, plan and execute a substantial research project, and present a paper at a conference organised by the School of Music mid-way through the 2 semesters of enrolment.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate a command of both standard literature and writings at the current scholarly forefront of the chosen field;
- develop the capacity for independent and original research and the ability to, plan and execute a substantial research project.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject students should have developed:
- a capacity for independent critical thought;
- an openness to new ideas;
- knowledge, skills and practices that provide a basis for independent critical inquiry and research-based writing.

This subject continues over two consecutive study periods, with students first enrolling in MUSI40104 Dissertation Part 1 and then subsequently enrolling in MUSI40105 Dissertation Part 2, for a total enrolment of 37.5 credit points. Students will receive an overall result for the subject following completion of the two-subject sequence.
