Throughout this subject, you will gain an understanding of the organisational context where development leaders implement change initiatives. Theoretical foundations draw from applied behavioural sciences and cover interpersonal, group, inter-group, and organisation-wide interventions to effect comprehensive and lasting change. You will examine innovative strategies for training and developing leaders, as well as planning and implementing succession in global development sector organisations. Blending theory and practice, you will work in teams to analyse real-world organisational change scenarios and leadership challenges.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Apply flexible styles of leadership, transformative methods and strategic planning in delivering creative organisational change in contexts of complexity and transition;
- Critically appraise organisational change frameworks, dimensions and the environmental factors that promote or impede change to effectively respond to challenges as they arise in an organisational setting;
- Develop and lead a comprehensive change strategy that promotes meaningful, transformational and sustainable organisational change;
- Design an effective evaluation strategy for measuring change initiatives;
- Demonstrate capability in navigating organisational politics and culture, including conflict management and personnel development to promote efficient and effective organisations.

The course is designed for online delivery, students are required to participate online. Students will be required to meet some basic technological requirements such as ongoing and stable access to the internet, up to date browsers, and a microphone and headset for webinars (as specified at: https://online.unimelb.edu.au/support/current-students/apps-and-software-info/systems-and-support)
