In this subject first year students gain an understanding of the process of creating a live performance across major technical and design roles and how they interrelate. It will cover the production process from concept to creation, looking at each different area – Costume, Stage Management, Lighting, Design, Sound and Scenery/Props.
Students will apply this knowledge along with the skills they have gained in other subjects on one or more VCA productions by undertaking crew roles.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- Recognise and understand key theatrical terminology
- Demonstrate an understanding of the roles and responsibilities in multiple areas within technical theatre
- Understand and articulate a standard production process in the performing arts
- Apply an understanding of the technical process of theatre making in a production context

Placement on VCA productions (1,500 word equivalent) as assessed by supervisor. Plus a 500 word reflection.

Additional details
HURDLE REQUIREMENT:
Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of timetabled classes, consultations and tutorials and 100% of all key production events relevant to assigned role which may include: show calls, design presentations, production meetings, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, bump ins and bump outs.
